This week I was inspired by my friend's new baby to make this card to welcome a baby girl. I was thinking of a patchwork kangaroo and have used the technique of "paper piecing" to get near to creating that effect. The papers used are from the Peony Garden Designer Series Paper pack, which are perfect for a new baby with the subtle greys and pastel pink of the colour scheme.
The paper piecing technique involves stamping the image onto different papers and then cutting elements out before glueing them back onto the original. You can use as many different papers as you like, but I used just two different designs for mama and another design for bub. I used the Kangaroo dies to help with the cutting and then fussy cut the mama kangaroo's tummy and inner ear out of the alternate side of the Basic Gray floral paper. I then stamped the baby kangaroo on a Petal Pink print and used the dies to cut her out.
The kangaroo dies cut a slit into the mama kangaroo's pouch so that the baby can sit inside, but if you don't have the dies you could achieve the same with scissors or a craft knife. As this card is for a baby girl I wanted to add some pretty bits, so I cut out a white background with the Stitched so Sweetly Dies and cut a couple of tiny hearts from coordinating papers. The sentiment is stamped on a strip of Petal Pink card, finished with a flag end.
Finishing touches are a little linen thread bow and a champagne rhinestone, which coordinates perfectly with these papers.
